On January, 15 Prime Minister Julia Tymoshenko initiated measures on substituting of gas with electricity under the guidance of her adviser Vitaliy Gayduk. "We need to apply technologies that allow to use electricity instead of natural gas. It is a purpose number one ", - said Tymoshenko at the meeting with regional governors.

She gave governors two months for these measures to be implemented. "I ask my adviser Vitaly Gayduk to take measures - hope that in the nearest time he will become a Vice-Prime Minister", - said Tymoshenko.

Among other responsible for this direction she named the Minister of Fuel and Energy, and the Minister of Housing and Utility Services. "I would ask, that under such guidance - number one is Gayduk and then other ministers - governors to do such work", - said Tymoshenko.

On her words, use of electricity instead of gas is cheaper and secures energy independence of Ukraine. "We will build political independence by creating energy independence. And we consider it is not only as a task of central government, but of every head of local authorities as well", - said Tymoshenko.

In particular, she promised to realize the production of Ukrainian gas on the shelf of the Black Sea that must strengthen energy independence.

Other perspective direction that Tymoshenko announced is sale of Ukrainian quotas for greenhouse gas emission reductions under Kyoto protocol."Ukraine conducted negotiations with countries, which are ready to purchase quotas for greenhouse gas emission reductions. It is billions of dollars that can be used for substitution of gas with other energy sources", - she said.
