Moscow to waive fines for Naftohaz?
Energizer Mon, 2009-09-14 09:36Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin has agreed not to fine Ukraine for buying less natural gas than stipulated in the January 2009 contracts between Naftohaz Ukrainy and Gazprom. Putin, speaking in Poland after meeting with his Ukrainian counterpart Yulia Tymoshenko on September 1, agreed that Ukraine would only pay for as much gas as it consumed.The contracts contain a “take-or-pay” clause that obliges Ukraine to pay for at least 41 billion cubic metres of gas in 2009. IMF will not give anymore money to Ukraine?

Energizer Thu, 2009-08-27 10:11Ukraine's government will propose the State Property Fund of Ukraine should consider the return of the OJSC Rivneazot to the state ownership, Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko has said. "We will suggest the State Property Fund should conduct checks of an agreement on the privatization of this enterprise. Tymoshenko wants to annul oil, gas licenses issued by Yanukovych!
Energizer Thu, 2009-08-27 09:58The Ukrainian cabinet intends to transfer to the national joint stock company Naftohaz Ukrayiny a part of licenses issued by the Nadra Ukrayiny state regulator during the tenure of former Prime Minister Viktor Yanukovych, Prime Minister Yuliya Tymoshenko said. "All licenses which were issued unlawfully to the people close to Viktor Yanukovych - these are deposits with billions of cubic metres of gas and millions of tonnes of oil - will be transferred to Naftohaz," Tymoshenko said during a briefing on 26 August 2009.Interesting how this step would be perceived by foreign investors. Results of last Presidential election poll - Yanukovych is a champion!

UKRAINE IS PLANNING TO CUT IMPORT OF RUSSIAN GAS IN 2010?!
Scroooge Fri, 2009-08-21 11:02Ukraine is planning to reduce the amount of Russian gas to be imported to Ukraine in 2010 to 25 billion cubic meters, Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko has said on August 20, 2009 in Lviv. "This year, we have bought 33 billion cubic meters of Russian gas, and next year we'll import 25 billion cubic meters," she said at an annual meeting of the World Congress of Ukrainians. Tymoshenko said that Ukraine was also planning to introduce energy saving and alternative types of fuel. It was reported earlier that NJSC Naftogaz Ukrainy had initiated the process of reducing the amount of gas it is contracted to buy from Gazprom in 2010. EU/UKRAINE: Loans may bolster gas stability, for now
Energizer Tue, 2009-08-04 10:21EU/UKRAINE: The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, European Investment Bank and World Bank on Saturday agreed to provide Ukraine's Naftohaz with up to 1.7 billion dollars in loans in exchange for structural reforms to shore up the company's balance sheets and improve accountability for domestic gas payments. The financially troubled Naftogaz has struggled to make its monthly payments to Gazprom ever since Prime Ministers Yulia Tymoshenko and Vladimir Putin reached a bilateral gas agreement in January, raising fears that Gazprom would cut off gas flows to Ukraine and Europe if Naftohaz proved unable to pay. Ukraine: Third tranche of IMF loan will help to stabilise economy, release of fourth tranche remains uncertain
Energizer Tue, 2009-08-04 10:17The IMF approved the disbursement of the third tranche (worth $3.3bn) of a stand-by loan to Ukraine. The previous two tranches were released in November 2008 and May, bringing the amount disbursed so far to $10bn, out of a total planned loan of $16.4bn. Although the tranche was lower than Prime Minister Yuliya Tymoshenko had hoped (she expected $3.8bn), it will help to stabilise the economy , just as the previous instalments have done already. Moreover, parliament was forced on 24 July to end its protracted stalemate in order to approve the reforms on which the loan is contingent, particularly those in the banking sector.
